Considering Greece’s geographic position and its important role as a great shipping nation, Palladian Conferences organize in Athens, a WORLD SHIPPING LAW FORUM (WSLF) - Current Issues in Shipping Law, on Friday January 25th 2019 at the Hotel NJV Athens Plaza. In the Forum, experts will discuss and debate current issues in shipping law. The event is designed to generate insight into current legal problems in this field and the law’s role in addressing future challenges and fostering future opportunities. The forum will provide important networking opportunities for all attendees and participants.

PANEL II: Shipping finance
In the years following the global financial crisis traditional ship financing from banks has reduced in availability, new ship finance structures such as high-yield bonds, convertible debt, capital and operating leases and preferred equity structures have started to become available to the industry. As the industry moves away from conventional deals with banks, it is important to increase awareness of the legal implications of these new methods of financing.
PANEL III: Regulatory and International Environment
Maritime transport emits around 1000 million tonnes of CO2 annually and is responsible for about 2.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions (3rdIMO GHG study). Shipping emissions are predicted to increase between 50% and 250%by 2050 – depending on future economic and energy developments. The EU has recently called for international action to address this issue and from 2018 large ships using EU ports will be required to report their verified annual emissions and other relevant information. This and other developments in regulation will doubtless have a profound impact on the industry going forward.
PANEL IV: The Shipowners Panel
In this panel, shipowners will give their perspective on the impact of the above developments on their businesses. This will give context to the subsequent legal discussion.
